Audios for Aphasia
A new tool to benefit Speech Language Pathologists and their patients by facilitating verbal expression through music. Good for individuals with aphasia, apraxia, or other speech and/or language imparing conditions.

Therapy TipsCarryover Practice MaterialThese CDs can be used to expand practice time beyond regular therapy hours or when a therapist is no longer available. Specific cueing techniques were employed to elicit speech from those with limited verbal output due to aphasia, apraxia, or cognitive impairment.Enjoyable MediaThe music and language learning/relearning experiences were matched to provide maximal enjoyment and stimulation. A variety of familiar songs and rote recall are used, along with a slowed rate of presentation and phonemic cueing. Multiple presentations allow for those that require complete cueing, partial cueing, or just a "boost" to get started.Suitable for Adults and ChildrenThe songs and rote sequences were selected with both adults and children in mind. These themed CDs were designed to meet a need for continued practice of language material with or without the therapist present. Audios for Aphasia utilizes music with language to stimulate alternate cerebral pathways. These CDs are a valuable resource for assisting patients to regain and/or learn basic language skills in a fun, relaxing manner.Easily CustomizedA section for Personal Information on CD1 was included. The Speech Therapist or a family member could make a separate copy of this information and include names/other material as needed. It can then be played repeatedly to practice or learn for the first time this important vital information.Applicable to Restorative or Maintenance ProgramsThese CDs may be used as part of a Restorative or Maintenance Program. But it is not intended as a substitute for formal intervention. A Speech-Language Pathologist may use these as part of a variety of therapeutic approaches. Patients may benefit from using these with the Speech Therapist initially, and then advance to individual practice sessions.Early InterventionFor first time language learners, this CD is a valuable adjunct to other therapy approaches. It could be employed in Early Intervention classrooms, individual therapy sessions, or sent home for continued practice and/or enjoyment. |
